The Influence of Knowledge and Information Acceptance towards Environment Awareness Attitude of Junior High School Students in Suppa Subdistrict

Abstract

This research is ex post facto in the form of multiple regressions. The population of this research is all grade VIII State Junior High School students in Suppa sub-district, Pinrang district, academic year 2015/2016 which consists of four schools with the total of 422 students. Sampel are taken by employing random sampling technique and obtained 117 students. Data is collected using multiple choise test, information acceptance questionnaire, attitude questionnaire environmental awareness and free interview guidance. The data analysis technique used is multiple regression technique with the assistance of SPSS program 18 version for computer; however, before hypothesis test is conducted, the analysis prerequisite test is conducted beforehand in forms of normality test, linearity and homogeneity.The results of the research reveal that: (i) most of the students environmental knowledge can be categorized as high; most of the students’ information acceptance can be categorized as fair; whereas, most of the students’ attitude of environmental awareness can be categorized as very high; (ii) there is positive and significant influence between environmental knowledge and the attitude of environmental awareness. The influence of environmental knowledge and the attitude of environmental awareness is categorized as fairly strong; (iii) there is positive and significant influence between information acceptance through mass media and the attitude of environmental awareness. The influence of information acceptance on the attitude of environmental awareness is categorized as low; (iv) there is positive and significant influence between environmental knowledge and information acceptance through mass media on the attitude of environmental awareness. The influence of the environmental knowledge and information acceptance on the attitude of environmental awareness is categorized as fairly strong.
